The Predominance of Rice in Our Diet

Rice and its byproducts are staples in many diets around the world. While rice can be a source of energy, relying on it too heavily can lead to nutritional deficiencies. Many people consume rice with gravies like sambar and puli kulambu, often discarding the vegetables and only consuming the liquid and rice. This practice results in missing out on essential vitamins and minerals that the vegetables provide.

Nutritional Decline of Modern Rice Varieties

Today, most rice varieties are polished, stripping away the nutrient-rich outer layers. This process significantly reduces the nutritional value of rice. In contrast, ancient diets included unpolished grains that were far more nutritious. This shift in dietary habits contributes to the reduced life span observed in modern times. While people in ancient times often lived to be 100-130 years old, today’s average life expectancy is around 50-60 years.

    Healthy Alternatives and Nutrient-Rich Foods

To ensure we get the necessary nutrients and vitamins, it’s important to diversify our diet:

    • Apple, Beetroot, and Carrot (ABC): Consuming these fruits and vegetables provides a rich source of vitamins and minerals. They can be juiced or eaten raw for maximum benefit.
    • Millets: Include grains like kambu (pearl millet) and thinai (foxtail millet) in your diet frequently. These ancient grains are packed with nutrients and offer a healthier alternative to polished rice.
    • Half-Boiled Potatoes: Potatoes, when half-boiled, retain more nutrients and provide a good source of energy and vitamins.

    Avoid Unhealthy Snacks and Beverages

Modern diets often include unhealthy snacks and sugary beverages. To improve health, it’s advisable to:

    • Avoid snacks and teas that are high in sugar and unhealthy fats.
    • Opt for herbal teas with brown sugar, which provide health benefits without the adverse effects of regular tea.

    Embrace Navadhaniyam and Yogic Foods

Navadhaniyam, a mix of nine grains, offers a comprehensive nutrient profile. Consuming it daily can enhance your overall health. Additionally, yogic food principles emphasize eating non-spicy, low-salt, and non-sour foods. Such a diet helps maintain a balanced and healthy body.

    The Role of Sanjeevini

For those who find it challenging to follow a strict dietary regimen, incorporating Sanjeevini can be beneficial. Sanjeevini is believed to directly increase the life force energy in the body directly, promoting better health and longevity.

    Conclusion

Mindful eating is satisfying hunger and nourishing the body with the right nutrients. By making conscious dietary choices, such as incorporating a variety of fruits, vegetables, and ancient grains, and avoiding unhealthy snacks, we can improve our health and extend our lifespan. Let’s embrace these changes and revitalize our life energy for a healthier future.
