October 5th marks the birthday of the revered saint and guru, Vallalar, also known as Ramalinga Adigalar. His profound teachings emphasize the significance of compassion and its role in spiritual awakening. Vallalar believed that compassion, not rituals or worship, is the true path to connect with the divine. In this blog, we will delve into Vallalar’s spiritual wisdom and explore the five transformative teachings he shared with the world.

Compassion as the Key to Divinity:

Vallalar emphasized that true devotion lies in being compassionate towards all living beings. He believed that showing kindness and mercy to those in need is more important than rituals or offerings to idols. According to Vallalar, compassion is the essence of God, and by nurturing this quality, we can attain a deeper connection with the divine.

The Tenth Gate:

Vallalar introduced the concept of the “tenth gate” located behind the inside of the tongue. He explained that this gateway is blocked by a muscular tissue so narrow as that of a hairline. He also proposed the flag of sanmargam with yellow and white colours with the semblance of the tissue. To access spiritual enlightenment, Vallalar advocated practicing meditation to generate pure heat and open this gate. By doing so, one can progress on the path toward becoming “Arutperumjyothi,” a being of pure light.

Light Meditation:

Vallalar recommended a specific meditation practice to attain spiritual enlightenment. Regularly doing light lamp meditation practice, as he suggested, can help individuals become beings of light themselves. This meditation involves visualizing and harnessing light energy, thereby purifying the body and soul.

The Five Words of Wisdom:

Vallalar’s teachings can be summarized in five powerful statements:

Kaya Siddhi Karisalai: Perpetual consumption of karisalanganni herb leaves for 12 years can make the body imperishable.

Kariya Siddhiku Agaval Parayanam: Daily recitation of the “Arutperumjyothi Agaval” upon waking up ensures the success of the endeavors in our everyday life without many hurdles.

Yoga Siddhiku: Chanting the mantra, “Arutperumjyothi Arutperumjyothi thaniperum karunai Arutperumjyothi” up to 12 crore times regularly for successful meditation or yoga and also to attain deathless life i.e. escaping the cycle of birth and death.

Gnana Siddhiku: Attaining wisdom by practicing “jeevakarunyaolukkam” and feeding the hungry.

Sarva Siddhiku: Gaining supernatural or immense powers by empathizing with the pain and suffering of others, ultimately leading to godliness.

Conclusion:

Vallalar’s teachings transcend time and continue to inspire seekers of spiritual enlightenment. His emphasis on compassion as the true path to divinity, the concept of the tenth gate, and the five words of wisdom serve as valuable guidance for leading a fulfilling and spiritually awakened life. By embracing these teachings, one can aspire to become a divine being of light, radiating compassion and love to all living creatures
